Mr. William David Simmons, Jr. was born on July 8, 1940 in Craven County to the late William David Simmons, Sr. and Rosdie Lee Simmons. He answered his eternal call on July 10, 2025, peacefully at his home.
William was known by his family and friends as “Sleepy”. He attended school at Snowden in Aurora, NC, but at the age of 14 moved to New York City. In New York, William worked as a custodian for many years, in which he was very dedicated. His hobby was racing cars.
William was a faithful member under the leadership of Bishop Charles Tyson, and Fresh Anointing. In August of 2024, he became a member of Bread of Life Ministries, where he served as a Trustee. He kept the church yard beautiful and clean, until his health began to fail. He was such a faithful Trustee at Bread of Life Ministries.
William leaves to cherish his memories, his wife Lydia Simmons of the home; three sons Lane (Maureen) Simmons, and Theodore Simmons of Riverhead, New York, Jamie Simmons, of Brooklyn, New York; one sister. Deaconess Louvenia Moore of Washington, NC; six stepdaughters, Apostle Glenda Harris, Eldress Tonya (Melvin) Bunch of Chocowinity, NC, Evangelist Kedra Harris and Missionary Marie Stanley of Greenville, NC; Mary Gibbs and Rosie Credle of Washington, NC; two stepsons, Derek Harris of Fountain, NC and Steven Harris of Wake Forrest, NC; two brothers-in-law, Henry (Wilhemia) Hawks and Ernest (Darlene) Hawks of Belhaven, NC; 34 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, 2 great, great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Mr. William Goddaughter moved into the home to help take care of him when his health began to fail. He also had a best friend name Jones, better known as “JJ,” from South Carolina.
Viewing will be held on Friday, July 18, 2025 from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at People's Memorial Chapel. The Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, July 19, 2025 at 12:00 PM at Bread of Life Ministries.
