Mrs. Viola Delores Fonville Benston, was born on November 17, 1943, in Hyde County, NC to the late Jack and Birdie R. Fonville. Viola departed this earthly life on Thursday, June 27, 2024, at ECU Health Medical Center, Greenville, NC.
Viola who was affectionately called “Peaches & Sister” and most recently to her grands and great grands as “Nama”. Viola attended and graduated from O.A. Peay School. At a young age, Viola became a member of St. Mary Church of Swan Quarter, under the leadership of Elder G. R. Lovick. Later upon her parents relocating Beaufort County, she was a member of Queen Chapel Church of Christ.
Upon graduating high school, Viola relocated to New York, then Connecticut, then back to North Carolina. On June 25, 1982 she was united in Holy Matrimony to Lee Thomas Benston for 42 years.
Viola was preceded in death by her parents Jack and Birdie Fonville, and her brother Gaitha Askew Fonville.
Viola precious and loving memories will long be remembered by all those whose lives she touched. We who remain, struck by the bitter pain of death, but satisfied with the promise made by God, that He would wipe all tears from our eyes: her husband, Lee T. Benston of the home; daughter, Felicia Fonville Ward (Calvin); granddaughter, Brianna C. Ward; grandson, Bryson M. Ward; great grandson, Josiah A. Edwards; two brothers, Adolphous Fonville (Brenda), Erskine Fonville (Bernadette); one sister, Myrtle F. Linton; one aunt, Mary F. Alexander, and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Her life's devotion, service to God and mankind will be celebrated 11:00 AM Saturday, July 6, 2024, at People's Memorial Chapel.
Visitation will be held Friday, July 05, 2024, from 2:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the People's Memorial Chapel.
