Mrs. MaraVaughn Holloway Obituary

MaraVaughn Terine Holloway daughter of the late Johnny Holloway and Alma Greene Holloway, was born on November 29, 1954. She peacefully departed this earthly life on Saturday, March 21, 2026.

Following the passing of her mother, MaraVaughn was lovingly raised by her surrogate aunt, Cathrine G. Moss, in Farmville, North Carolina. She attended Farmville Central High School and later continued her education at Fayetteville State University.

Affectionately known as “Sista,” she was a woman of strength, positivity, and unwavering spirit. Terri encouraged others to remain positive and not be discouraged by negativity. She embraced life fully, living with courage, purpose, and without regret qualities that defined her character and left a lasting impression on all who knew her.

Sista dedicated years of service working for Father Mayfield (CDBH) DSS Board, and later served as an Adult Medicare Worker until her retirement. She was also a devoted member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Prince Hall Affiliated, where she served as a Past Worthy Matron of Pride of Hyde Chapter No. 572.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her surrogate parents, Cathrine G. Moss and Phillip Greene, Jr., and her brothers, Joe Winford Holloway and Linwood Garland Holloway.

Sista leaves to cherish her precious memories: her daughter, Shawnette Gross; her son, Bruce Gross, Jr.; her loving grandchildren, Sha’Mari Campbell, Gabriel Smith, Antonio Gross, Hailey Wright, Dominic Hopkins, and Brandon Gross; and her great-grandchildren, Kenji Dunbar, Kanari Dunbar, Easson Gross, Ezra Gross, Brayden Gross, and Nyla Scaboro.

Sista also leaves a devoted goddaughter, TyQueshia Carter; her stepmother, Margaret Holloway of Washington, North Carolina; her brothers, Johnnie Holloway, Jr. of Petersburg, Virginia, Floyd Holloway (Dorene) of Swan Quarter, North Carolina, Alonzo Holloway of Swan Quarter, North Carolina, and Frederick Holloway (Pam) of Greenville, North Carolina; her stepbrother, Michael Barrow of Swan Quarter, North Carolina; her stepsister, Sandra Dildy (Henry) of Washington, North Carolina; her sister-in-law, Theresa Holloway of Sumter, South Carolina; her aunt, Gwen Lancaster of Georgia; her uncles, Ivy Greene (Jackie) of Fayetteville, North Carolina and Willie E. Greene of Swan Quarter, North Carolina; a special friend, Minnie Carter of Swan Quarter, North Carolina; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members.

Her life was a testament to love, resilience, and faith, and her legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
