George David Mizelle, 79, passed away on December 12, 2025, in Washington, NC. Born on May 19, 1946, George dedicated his life to his family and his community, leaving a lasting legacy of warmth and commitment.
George was a proud graduate of Roanoke Rapids High School. His career spanned several decades as a Maintenance Technician, where his diligence and expertise were greatly valued. George was not only committed to his profession but also deeply involved in the lives of his family and friends. Described as a dedicated, hard-working, warm-hearted, and fun-loving man, George was an extraordinary husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. His family was his greatest hobby; he cherished time spent with them above all else.
Known affectionately as “Pops” George was an avid sports fan, a passionate landscaper, and an exceptional dancer. His love for hats and his impeccable style were notable traits that made him stand out in any crowd.
George is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Gladys Mizelle,
and children, Antoine Hale-Dunlap (Perry), George Mizelle, Jr. (LaVonda), and Allen Mizelle (Swakiatrice). He was a proud grand- father to Anthonie, Syrena, Jamal, Dominique, Tyra, Raketa, Ray, Shelly, Tiffany, and Tracy, and a great-grandfather to numerous great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind his siblings, Alice Williams, Belinda Roberson, and Denise Mitchell, aunts, Mary Williams and Florence Lodge, along with many uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. George was preceded in death by his grand-
parents, Magnolia and Howard Joyner; his parents, Viola and Lester Mizelle, Sr.; and his siblings, Mabel Johnson, Gladys Gray, Ethel Williams, and Lester Mizelle, Jr.
A Viewing will be held on Friday, December 19, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM at People's Memorial Chapel, 219 North Bonner Street, Washington, NC 27889.
A Private Memorial Service will be held at People’s Memorial Chapel on Saturday, December 20,2025, from 12:00 PM until 1:00 PM.
