Mother Peggy Lee (Suggs) Grimes

Mother Peggy Lee Grimes, 83, of Grimesland, North Carolina, departed this life on Tuesday, July 09, 2024. Mother Grimes was born on February 17, 1941, in Kinston North Carolina to the late William Suggs and Lula Bell Gaskin Hawkins.  

Peggy met and married the love of her life, Dan Grimes, and they were married for 43 years. She was employed for 50 years at Vidant Hospital, and she also worked in home health care for 20 years. 

In her earlier years Mother Grimes, was a member of Little Grove Holiness church. Then on September 22, 1967 she joined St. Monica Missionary Baptist Church where she remained a member until her passing. She was a mother for 15 years, a Sunday School teacher, Superintendent of Sunday School, President and Vice President of the Ushers, Financial Secretary of the Old Eastern Missionary Baptist Association Ushers, Financial Secretary of the Beaufort/Pitt Missionary Circle, former member of the Order of Eastern Star.  

Mother Grimes was preceded in death by her husband, Dan Grimes, her son Coley Jerome Suggs, and her sister Lillian Hawkins Canady.

Mother Grimes precious and loving memories will long be remembered by all those whose lives she touched. We who remain, struck by the bitter pain of death, but satisfied with the promise made by God, that He would wipe all tears from our eyes:  three brothers, James Cratch (Ava) of Greenville NC, George Hawkins, Edward Hawkins (Linda) both of Kinston NC; three sisters, Shirley Hawkins Dudley (Howard) of Kinston NC, Minnie Hawkins of Jacksonville NC, Rose Hawkins of Kinston NC; five grandchildren, Teriell Gibbs (Gena) of Winterville NC, Timeeka Colvin (Chris) of Chocowinity NC, Chris Ross (Jessica) of Washington NC, Jerome Suggs (Quanmesha) of Winterville NC, and Peggy Braxton of Greenville NC; twenty-one great grandchildren, Emoni Hayes (Don), Trinity Gibbs, Ezekiel Gibbs, Kaileb Suggs Colvin, Loren Colvin, Christopher Rashad Ross, Jaylin Ross, Jordan Ross, Jasmine Ross, King Coley Suggs, Kurtis Braxton, Terrance Braxton, Donta Braxton, Wykeemia Braxton, Takia Braxton, Carlos Braxton, Aaliyah Braxton, Ashyne Braxton, Tycere Braxton, Aniyah Braxton, Nasiere Braxton, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Interment for Mother Grimes will take place at the Homestead Memorial Garden in Greenville, NC.
