Mother Lula Garnett Obituary

Mrs. Lula Geneva Peele Garnett, 83, of Bath, North Carolina, departed this earthly life on Thursday, January 16, 2025 in the comfort of her home.

Mother Lula Garnett, 83 of Bath, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2025. Born on December 17, 1941, to the late Bennie and Bertha Peele, Lula was a beloved mother, sister, and friend whose faith and warmth touched the lives of everyone she met.

Lula was a devoted member of Gateway Church of Christ, where she served as a Mother in the Church and a proud member of the senior choir. She was a true believer in the Lord, and her unwavering faith was the foundation of her life. Lula’s love for God shone brightly through the kind spirit, generosity, and devotion of her family and community.

Lula was married to her beloved husband, the late Robert Garnett Sr. for 63 beautiful years. Together they raised eight children, instilling in them the values of love, faith and perseverance. In her early years, Lula worked various jobs before dedicating herself to her role as a homemaker, creating a loving and nurturing environment for her family. She enjoyed cooking for everyone who came around, and her great northern beans and biscuits were legendary-a true comfort to all who shared her table.

Lula also loved gardening, tending to her flowers and vegetables with care, and raising her chickens and cats, which brought her much joy. She found happiness in simple yet meaningful activities, like watching soap operas, tuning into Judge Judy, watching her favorite basketball player, Lebron James and especially talking on the phone with friends and family, a past time that kept her connected to the people she loved most. Her greatest joy, however, came from spending time with her great-grandchildren, who brought light and laughter to her days.

Mother Garnett was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Deacon Robert “Lee” Garnett Sr., and her daughter, Vanessa Garnett. Mother Garnett was also preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, Bennie Peele Jr., Leroy Rodman, Augusta Satchell and Billy Peele Sr.; two sisters, Lula Merritt and Ruby Smith. Additionally, she was preceded by a sister-in- law, Judy Bryant.

Mother Garnett leaves to cherish her memory four sons: Jimmy Peele of Chocowinity, NC; William Garnett of Washington, NC; Robert E. Garnett (Melissa Garnett) of Belhaven, NC; and Victor Garnett (Pastor Stacy McCarter Garnett) of Greenville, NC. She is also survived by four daughters: Iris Garnett of Washington, NC; Rejeanna Garnett of Bath, NC; Stephanie Garnett of Washington, NC; and Annette Garnett of Las Vegas, Nevada, as well as a daughter-in-kind, Jackie Bonner of Bath, NC. Her siblings include four sisters:
Sylvia Davis of Washington, NC; Mary Satterwaite of Washington, NC; Ida Mae Green of Chocowinity, NC; and Sue Green of Washington, NC. In addition to her children and siblings, Mother Garnett is survived by seventeen grandchildren, thirty-three great-grand- children, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends who will forever treasure her memory.
