Leonest Credle Obituary

Mr. Leonest Credle Jr. was born October 12th 1935 in Hyde County to the late Honest and Lydia Mae O’Neal Credle. He was one of five children. Leon was a well-known resident of Pitt County for over 40 years. He peacefully departed this life surrounded in prayer by those closest to him on April 9th 2026.

Leon attended Hyde County Training School in Sladesville, NC. He later met and devoted his love to Laura Mae Washington. They moved to Norfolk, VA where
they married & in their union they had two children. Leon moved his family to New Haven, CT where he worked & retired from Leonards Concrete Pipe Co. From there, they moved to Ayden, NC & he continued working at Adam’s Concrete in Kinston, NC. Upon leaving Adam’s, he began work at Dixie Queen in Winterville, NC making the best coleslaw around! Leon & Laura Credle were blessed in marriage for 70 years.

Leon was preceded in death by his daughter, Annie Credle; his brother, Wilbert Lee Credle; and two sisters, Dora Lee Credle and Rosa “Tootsie” White.

Leon leaves to cherish his memories; his wife, Laura Credle of Ayden, NC; his daughter, Cindy Powell of Greenville, NC; his son-in-law, Timothy Rayon of New Haven, CT; his godson, Maurice Hall of Greenville, NC; two granddaughters, Shaquanda Maybanks of Greenville, NC and Latrice Brown; Four Grandsons, Maurice Credle of Fayetteville,NC, Frank (Teia) Brown of Greenville, NC,
Tarik (Mimi) Brown of Greenville, NC, and Tyreese Credle of New Haven, CT; five great-grands, Nya Brown of Greenville, NC, Nelia Brown of Greenville, NC, Anthony “Head” Williams of Greenville, NC, Zaria Brown & Jonthan Brown; his sister, Christine Davis of Sladesville, NC; his brother-in-law, Ervin White of Belhaven, NC; two nephews, Glen (Valerie) Credle of Sladesville, NC, and Tracy Credle of Sladesville, NC; three nieces, Venessa Credle (William) Cooper of Washington, NC, Kimberly White of Winterville, NC, & Keemah White of Belhaven, NC; special friends, Lorenza Suggs III, Joyce (Willie) Gray, & Leroy (Mary) Fields; along with a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, relatives, & friends.

A viewing will be held on Friday, April 24, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at People’s Memorial Chapel. Celebration of Life service will take place on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Corey’s Chapel OFWB Church, 5238 County Home Rd, Winterville, NC 28590. Interment will follow at the Mills Family Cemetery in Winterville, North Carolina.
