Deacon Windell McCloud, Sr. Obituary

Mr. Windell McCloud, Sr., age 85, of Belhaven, North Carolina, entered into rest on Monday, March 23, 2026 while in the comfort of his home. Deacon McCloud Sr was born on September 16, 1940 in Belhaven, North Carolina to the late Ira and Edith McCloud.

Deacon McCloud attended the Belhaven School System and excelled academically.  In high school he was a member of NFA (New Farmers of America).  As an officer in NFA, he represented and won many awards on local, regional and state levels. Deacon McCloud graduated in 1958 as class Valedictorian.  He went on to attend NC A&T University in Greensboro, NC.

Deacon McCloud was an avid baseball player. He played with several black travel teams, where he was a starting left handed pitcher

Deacon McCloud served his country as a member of the US Navy.  He was aboard the Navy Destroyer USS Massey, when he entered the Vietnam War. He went on to work for Hackney & Sons in Washington, NC.  He was employed there for 34 years.  He worked as a welder and retired as Plant Foreman for Hackney's van department.

Deacon McCloud happily served his community.  He coached the Belhaven Elementary School's softball team and served on the school advisory board. Deacon McCloud served as a community spokes person.

Deacon McCloud was exposed to religion at an early age.  He attended Weeping Mary Disciple Church in  Pantego, NC during his early youth.  He later joined St. James COC/DOC where he remained for 70 years.  He was a very active and faithful member who wore many hats of service.

Deacon McCloud was proceeded in death by his parents, his brothers Ira Mac, and Linwood McCloud.  His sister Shirley Oneal Harrington. Brothers-in-law Enoch Oneal Jr, Marshall Whitaker,  James R. Jones, Melvin Moore.  Sisters in-law Ruth Davis, Gloria Edwards, Alice Singleton, Martha and Ivory McCloud. Grandson Patrick McCloud Jr.

He leaves to cherish his memory,  his loving wife of 62 years Sophia McCloud of the home, Daughter Pamela Jordan (Ernest) of Stone Mountain, Ga, Sons Windell McCloud Jr. (Lisa) of Fayetteville, NC, Patrick McCloud of Washington, NC.  His nephew and niece that he raised as his own, Lavar Mitchell (Dee) of Belhaven, NC and Felicia Foskey (Fred) of Hampton, VA. Granddaughters Raquetia  Quet Charles (Doni), and Kyra Jordan Harris (Chirs).  Grandsons, Aaron Jordan, Nicholas, Brandon (Kierra), Shaun, Khyric and Maurik McCloud. Great Grandchildren Jordan, Jaylen, Kambria, Kahlisa, Bailey and David. Goddaughters Kammie White and Patricia Shelton. Grandchildren in love, Kaden, Kaiyel, Aniiya, Lavaria, Janise, TyMerah, TyJon, and Vega. Siblings Betty Whitaker (Fayetteville, NC) and Phil McCloud (Rubenia) Stokes, NC. Sisters in-law Lurcetia Clayton (Hampton, VA), Linda Smallwood (Fayetteville, NC) Brothers in-law Eddie Moore (Carolyn) Fayetteville, NC, Howard Moore (Clara) Belhaven, NC. Uncle Horace Covel (Washington, NC) and a host of other relatives and friends. Special Friends, AnnieMae McCloud Spencer, Beaulah Hogan Keyes, and Glorious Ann and Harry Mason.
